Phuket – Jewel of the Orient
Phuket’s history stems from its location as an island on the east coast of the Indian Ocean. It has been a welcome port for sailors from time immemorial and is a natural stopping place on trade routes from Europe and India to China. This lead to the arrival of Chinese, Muslim, Portuguese, Dutch, British and American sailors. Those who stayed and built have influenced religion, architecture and business. It is interesting to observe so many nationalities continuing to arrive to holiday on this beautiful island and many staying on to retire in this idyllic setting.
Phuket’s location is central to lands savaged by the recent tsunami. It is therefore ideally situated for outreach work by boat to outlying islands and nearby countries. This is indeed where Schooner Ixdos will make her maiden voyage.

What You Can Do to Help
Please read ‘How to Help’ for more details. This project has been funded almost entirely by maths teacher Patrick Vickers’s salary (see ‘Our Progress’), and a comparatively tiny amount of external financial support now could make an enormous difference to the speed of completing this very significant project. Thank you for your interest, and God Bless.
